TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Asieh Mahyar is deeply committed to music education and to inspiring the next generation of performers, conductors, educators, and artistic leaders. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes musical excellence, curiosity, collaboration, and the development of thoughtful musicians who connect artistic expression with cultural understanding. She is a believer in late music education and music making for adults. 
 
She has extensive experience teaching graduate and undergraduate music courses, including Rehearsal Techniques, Aural Skills, Conducting I, II, III, and Music and Culture. Currently serving as Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), she has served as Music Instructor at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU), Teaching Assistant at Michigan State University (MSU), and the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass), and Assistant Conductor at the Tchaikovsky Music School of Yerevan, Armenia.
 
Since 2026, Mahyar has also served as Guest Conducting Coach for Equilibrium Young Artists (EQ), the internationally recognized professional mentoring initiative founded by Grammy Award-winning soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan. Through EQ, she coaches emerging conductors in conducting, rehearsal technique, and score preparation.

A passionate clinician and mentor, Mahyar has collaborated with youth orchestras, honor ensembles, festivals, and music education organizations throughout the United States. She has presented clinics, conducted honor orchestras, coached ensembles, and served as an adjudicator for organizations including the Washington Music Educators Association, Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra, Youth Orchestras of San Antonio, Colorado State Music Teachers Association, Mount Pilchuck Music Educators Association, Chinook Music Educators Association, and Valley Music Education Association, in addition to working with numerous middle school and high school orchestras across the country.

Mahyar's teaching career began after earning her Piano Teaching Certificate from Iran's Ministry of Culture in Esfahan, where she taught piano and music theory and co-directed the "Avaz" Piano and Voice Recital Series, an educational concert initiative dedicated to supporting young musicians and fostering musical engagement within the local community.
